Man forced to choose between saving mother or wife in deadly floods

A man forced to choose between saving his wife or mother when deadly floods hit his village in China opted for the latter.
An estimated 130 people have died and another 110 are missing as a result of flooding caused by freak storms in the country’s Hebei Province.
Gao Fengshou, who lives in Daxian in Xingtai City was woken up by his wife to learn that flood waters were rising and that they, their two kids and his father were in danger.

But according to reports, the 39-year-old decided to leave his family to fortune and go to save his mum across the village, whose house was waist deep in water.

But instead of evacuating Zhang, his children, and his elderly father from the house, he left the home in a hurry and dashed across the village to save his mum, whose old family home was already waist-deep in water. Gao successfully saved his mum, but could not return to his home where the floodwaters were already up to his chest. After waiting several hours for the water to recede, he rushed back to his house and was relieved to find Zhang, the kids, aged four and two, and his dad huddled on the roof, having survived the flood. But reports said his wife immediately took the kids and what little remained of her belongings and let the village. She had apparently felt betrayed by her husband, who chose his mum over her. Zhang reportedly returned to the home of her parents in East Chinaís Shandong Province, where Gao has now gone to beg for her forgiveness.
