South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius was sentenced on July 6, 2016 to six years in jail for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his home three years ago. High Court judge Thokozile Masipa listed several mitigating factors for sentencing Pistorius to less than half the minimum 15-year term for murder, including the athlete's claim he believed he was shooting an intruder. / AFP PHOTO / LUCKY NXUMALOLUCKY NXUMALO/AFP/Getty Images

Disgraced athlete Oscar Pistorius has reportedly been rushed to hospital from prison.

The sprinter is currently serving six years for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

He was rushed to Kalafon Hospital in Pretoria yesterday, where he is reportedly being treated for injuries to his wrists.

Prison authorities said the Paralympic gold medalist injured himself after falling out of bed.
Singabakho Nxumalo, a spokesman for the correctional services department, said Sunday that Pistorius told officials that he suffered injuries after falling out of bed.

Pistorius has denied the injuries were the result of a suicide attempt.
